Ibstock & Barlestone Surgeries is looking for
Salaried GPs to join our family for 2 or 3 days a week
If you are disillusioned at not being treated equitably and disheartened because of a lack of career progression or have recently completed your training and are looking to join a proactive team of GPs who support one another, then you should think about coming to meet us.
A bit about us
We are an 11,000 GMS practice working across two sites – our main site in Ibstock and our branch surgery (which has a dispensary) in Barlestone.
We have 5 Partners (who actually get on with one another) – more about them below! All our Partners work part time (6 - 7 sessions per week) as we encourage outside interests and a positive work life balance.
We are successful and growing. This is reflected in our really positive NHS Choices feedback and growing list size.
We are innovative and always evolving – not for the sake of doing so, but so that we can better care for our patients and the colleagues we work with. We have some big plans for the future which include:
- Premises re-design to make our premises amongst the best in LLR
- Further expansion of our Practitioner colleague workforce
- Other top-secret plans that we may tell you about when we meet you!
We are a learning and supportive practice. These aren’t just words but backed up in what we do:
- Train Registrars and teach medical students
- Meet weekly, the first part of the meeting being to discuss any clinical scenarios that we need support with
- Regular in-house training sessions
- Open door policy: knock on the door of any of the Partners and expect a supportive welcome
All our patients receive a telephone consultation in the first instance as this improves access for our patients, allows us to promote self-care and means that we can ensure that our patients are seen by the right clinician in the right time - following a telephone consultation you can book a same day appointment or a pre-booked appointment with the clinician with the appropriate skill set to manage the patient’s problem.
This is supported by our innovative multidisciplinary team, which includes:
- upskilled Health Care Assistants
- Nurses, one of whom does community visits
- Pharmacy Technicians
- prescribing Pharmacists
- First Contact Physiotherapist
- Emergency Care Practitioners
- GPs with varying specialist interests
This really supports you when you are on call as you have protected slots to use to book patients into.
Due to our innovative ways of working you can expect to have no more than ten letters per day and in the future few medication reauthorisations.
What do we have to offer you?
Fairness and equity - all our GPs do the same amount of work (pro rata) in terms of:
- On calls
- Extended Access
- Paper work
- Working at the Barlestone branch surgery (usually a nice day with an earlier finish)
- Early afternoon surgeries (and therefore early finishes)
- 6 weeks annual leave
- A supportive environment: we prefer other doctors to knock on our door for a second opinion (even in the middle of surgery - we do!) if one is ‘not sure.’
- Participate in the training of registrars and medical students, all in protected time.
- A self-reflecting team of Partners – we appreciate feedback (positive and negative) of one another, and are always seeking to learn, improve and do better.
- A genuinely fun place to work. The doctors absolutely get on with one another, and we even talk to one another about things not related to work! Dr Charon Luke often bakes delicious cakes for all of us…
About you
We genuinely value having someone who will get on with us.
You will ‘muck in’ and have a proactive approach and bring new ideas about how to develop the practice.
Have a self-reflective personality – this is important as it means that you will be always be learning and striving to do better.
We encourage a portfolio career. We believe that it will keep you fresh and enthusiastic, just as it does for us!
We are open to the idea of Partnership, but only if this is part of your long-term vision.
