Job description & responsibilities

This is a hybrid role where your duties will be split between a GP Surgery Receptionist and a Healthcare Assistant.
As a GP Surgery Receptionist, you will be the first point of contact for our patients. Therefore, good communication skills, an ability to build rapport and excellent organisational skills are a must.
As a GP Healthcare Assistant, you will be responsible for some clinical procedures, including taking bloods, blood pressure readings and completing ECGs.
Our dynamic team is well established and offers a close-knit, supportive environment. Therefore, any new member of the team will be warmly welcomed.
You will be responsible to the Head Receptionist, Practice Manager and the GP Partners.
Successful candidates must be IT literate and experience of working within the NHS is desirable but not essential. In service training will be available, the practice supports employee development.
Receptionist duties will include:
• Booking patient appointments
• Dealing with general patient enquiries
• Registering new patients
• Answering in-coming calls
• Making outbound calls
• Extracting and filing patient notes
• General filing of records and correspondence
• Preparing out-going, internal and external post
• Maintaining manual records
• Keeping reception, the patient waiting room and other areas clean and tidy
• Maintaining up-to-date notice boards
• Maintaining stock levels
• Handling laboratory specimens
• Handling cash when charging patients where appropriate and maintaining relevant records
Healthcare Assistant duties will include:
- Measuring and recording following physiological measurements in routine presentations, and for premedical checks:
- Blood Pressure
- Pulse Rate And Rhythm
- Temperature
- Height And Weight - Body Mass Index
- Ecg
- New patient checks
- Urinalysis and preparation of specimens for investigation by the pathology laboratories
- Prepare and maintain environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions
- Assist in raising awareness of health and well-being, and how it can be promoted
- Give accurate and appropriate information to patients and groups within own competence
Clinical experience is not essential for this role.

Qualifications:
Essential
- IT Literate
Desirable
- Qualified in Phlebotomy
- Qualified to NVQ level 3
Experience:
Essential
- Previous Customer service and receptionist experience
- Experience of working within a team
- Experience of dealing with vulnerable patients
Desirable
- Skills in Phlebotomy, ECGs, Patient Health Checks, Blood Pressures
- Basic first aid knowledge
- Awareness of Blood Borne Viruses
- Experience of working in primary care
- Experience of working in a GP practice
- Medical receptionist experience
- Experience of working with the NHS as either a Receptionist or Healthcare Assistant
