About us
Ashgrove Surgery is a highly-respected training practice in the heart of the Welsh Valleys. With a patient population of circa 16,000 patients including a student population from the University of South Wales. The practice is in Pontypridd town centre, just off the A470 with good road, train, and bus links. Commuting from Cardiff is around 20 minutes by car.
Our goal is to grow our established training abilities by becoming a centre of excellence whilst simultaneously providing the highest quality of Primary Care services. Ashgrove provides long-term stability and unique opportunities for GPs with an aspiring future. As well as placing a strong emphasis on education & training, the practice is also a research centre with a purpose-built research facility.
The practice uses the Vision clinical system, along with a suite of IT packages such as Docman, Lexacom, SmartClinic, iGPR, Teams / SharePoint, Vision+, WCCG, GPTR, eConsult, Attend Anywhere, mySurgeryApp, MHOL.
All clinical staff are invited to a monthly MDT where we share updates, learning, SEAs etc.
Our Services
In addition to the standard GMS services, we offer the majority of enhanced services including joint injections, gender identity services, DOAC initiation and monitoring, contraception (IUDs, Implants), diabetes (including GLP-1 initiation), and minor surgery. We also hold the contracts for Cwm Taf and Cardiff & Vale vasectomy services due to the fact that we have our very own operating theatre, with a team of 6 GPs providing the service. We provide Occupational Health services and a private Aesthetics clinic.
Our Team
The practice boasts an excellent and highly professional team of 7 GP Partners, 1 Clinical Pharmacist Partner, 3 salaried GPs, 2 Physician Associates, 2 Pharm Techs, 5 nurses (inc prescriber and minor illness), 2 HCAs, and a phlebotomist. All complimented by a supportive reception and administration team. Our GPs hold a variety of additional external roles including Taf Ely Cluster GP lead, Clinical Lead role within HEIW, Medical advisor and Clinical Safety Officer for Cegedim (Vision), Research Primary Investigators, Occupational Health, and GP trainers. The partners are passionate about supporting their team to enjoy a quality of life at work with a healthy work-life balance.
The highly skilled nursing team manages all our routine chronic disease, co-ordinated by a dedicated administrator.
We have a team of administrators trained in ‘Workflow’ who manage all incoming clinical documents, generally our GPs only have one or two documents per week to review.
GPs meet at the end of morning surgery for coffee, chat, and informal peer support.
The Role
The role suits both those looking for a more settled career path to those wanting to have some stability whilst planning their future. Each position is unique and we would like to invite GPs looking towards their future to have a discussion with us to determine the path that best suits you.
Working patterns are designed to allow flexibility and the development of specialist interests and/or a portfolio career.
Our standard GP clinical session is 15 appointments with a mix of book-on-the-day telephone slots, pre-bookable slots (patient choice of telephone or face-to-face), and eConsults. Each session has several slots blocked for use only by the GP if a telephone consultation needs to be converted to face-to-face.
We have one GP each day as ‘Duty’. They start the day with an empty template, which is populated with acute problems to telephone triage once all other on the day slots are full. The duty GP is usually supported by a Duty Nurse, who manages acute minor illness. The duty role is allocated pro rata to number of sessions worked and therefore would be usually less than once per week.
Prescription queries and acute requests are all managed by our pharmacy team.
Salary is negotiable depending on experience.
Sessions ideally 4-8. Days and sessions flexible upon discussion.
