East Quay Medical Centre are expanding their Urgent Care Team

Bridgwater GP Practice, East Quay Medical Centre, is looking for an enthusiastic, pro-active, and patient centred Practitioner to join the practice. You may be an Advanced Clinical Practitioner, a Nurse Practitioner, a Paramedic/Emergency Care Practitioner, or a Physician’s Associate – we are keen to hear from you.

East Quay has well-managed, good quality and responsive urgent care, utilising a team approach that includes GPs, Nurse Practitioners and Practice Nurses. So successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. This on-the-day care has carefully designed capacity to manage demand and ensure that the:

  • Patients get good quality safe care
  • Doctors and Nurses have an enjoyable and manageable day
  • Reception are supported

This role is expected to develop and evolve over time as the successful post holder gains experience.

What is the job?

What matters more to us is the ability to help the practice and the patients, rather than your specialty – as the demand we have can be successfully managed by those with a variety of skills, qualifications and backgrounds. Thus role could be filled by an experienced Advanced Clinical Practitioner, a Nurse Practitioner, a Paramedic/Emergency Care Practitioner or a Physician’s Associate. We ask that the person in the role to:

  • Work collaboratively within the general practice team to meet the needs of patients and supporting the delivery of policy and procedures.
  • Act within your professional boundaries to provide care for the patient. This includes initial history taking, clinical assessment (physiological and psychological), diagnosis, treatment including prescribing and evaluation of care.
  • Demonstrate safe, clinical decision-making and care, including assessment and diagnostic skills, for patients within the general practice.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking in the clinical decision-making process but with the full support of the wider clinical team in making treatment plans.
  • Prioritise health problems and intervene appropriately to assist the patient in complex, urgent or emergency situations, including initiation of effective emergency care
  • Work with patients in order to support compliance with and adherence to prescribed treatments
  • Support patients to adopt health promotion strategies that promote healthy lifestyles, and apply principles of self-care

What about you?

Primary Care experience in a similar role (in or out of hours) is desirable but not essential

Ideally, you will have the ability to prescribe autonomously and see patients during a 15 minute consultation time.

It is helpful if you can also see children for a range of illnesses.

Ideally you will need to have a clean driving licence and car, as your work may include home visits.

More about the role:

We can be flexible with working hours and can offer full or part time hours. The surgery opens 8am-6.30pm but we can usually tailor working hours to fit with personal commitments. Ability to work on a Friday is ideal if possible but not essential.

Salary is dependent on qualifications and experience. We offer the NHS pension scheme, staff bonus scheme and we fund any indemnity top-up. You also get 5 weeks annual leave, plus bank holidays and 1 week of study leave.

Just off J23 of the M5, we are a large practice that care for 17000 patients. We are a training Practice for GP Registrars and F2s – and have hosted Medical and Nursing students. We have a large practice team comprising of GPs, Nurse Practitioners, Practice Nurses, Nurse Associates, Health Care Assistants, GP Assistants, Health Coaches and FCPs. We prioritise and value our culture of caring for each other and enjoying the work that we do. We have an open door policy (when patients are not in the room) and a very open and supportive ethos.
