Roathwell Surgery is seeking an experienced HCA to join our vibrant, patient focused and innovative practice who are committed to the delivery of high-quality, person-centred care. About us

  • We have 5 experienced doctors supported by an excellent clinical and administrative team including Pharmacists, Mental Health Nurses, Physiotherapists, Practice Nurses, Health Care Assistant, Phlebotomists, Administrative Staff, Receptionists and the Practice Manager.
  • We are a long-standing GP Speciality Training Practice
  • We are an experienced practice committed to the teaching and training of medical students from Cardiff University, and also trainee pharmacists and practice nurses.
  • EMIS web IT system and Accurx
  • High QAIF achieving
  • We are part of the South Easter Cluster [Collaborative] comprising of 8 practices. The surgery is located close to the city centre in the Roath area with a mixed demographic and easily accessible with public transport.

We hold regular informal clinical team meetings in addition to an open-door policy for mentoring and advice. We also have regular MDT meetings attended by our community teams including Midwives, Health Visitors, District Nurses and Palliative Care Nurses.

Clinical duties (dependent on training/experience)

  • Phlebotomy
  • BP checks
  • ECG
  • Spirometry
  • Testing Urine dips
  • B12 injections
  • Flu/pneumococcal/shingles immunisation
  • Repeat dressing of wounds after assessment by a qualified nurse (not packing)
  • INR checks
  • Learning disability checks
  • GP Lifestyle advice and smoking cessation advice
  • Chronic disease management: - Carry out routine annual and follow-up checks as per practice protocols for: - Diabetes/ pre- diabetes, Asthma, COPD.

Although this lists the main clinical duties, there may be additional tasks requested

Administrative duties

  • Stock check and ordering
  • Cleaning, checking and calibration of equipment
  • Stocking up clinical rooms and emptying clinical waste bins
  • Ensuring READ coding is correct for the purposes of practice payments.
  • Ensuring claim sheets are filled and returned in a timely fashion
  • General housekeeping (tidying storerooms and clinical rooms, disposing of out-of date stock and reporting to the appropriate person, putting stock and equipment away)
  • Taking on specific roles as discussed with the team, e.g flu champion.
  • Ensuring personal tasks are up-to-date on the Clinical system.

Desirable

Knowledge of EMIS computer software

Hours/Salary

Permanent position – 16 hours per week

Salary negotiated on experience
