Recruitment to the Role of GP Medical Appraiser
We are looking to add to our excellent team of dedicated GP appraisers and are now recruiting new Medical Appraisers.
Our GP Appraisers undertake GP annual appraisals in line with National and local guidance. The focus of GP appraisal is primarily supportive, and you will contribute to the personal development of your colleagues and help guide them in their progress towards revalidation. In addition, our Appraisers tell us that their own practise benefits from new ideas and learning shared at appraisal.
We welcome applications from doctors from all walks of life and celebrate individuality as we know diverse minds, experiences and backgrounds help us to learn and better serve the wider GP community.
We are committed to promoting a diverse and inclusive workforce and in doing so we recognise there is a lower representation of staff from underrepresented groups, backgrounds, and communities in our Appraiser workforce, particularly from those aged 39 and under and those from Black, Asian and other ethnic backgrounds. Therefore, it is our ambition to work together to promote a more inclusive environment, which attracts all candidates and signals our commitment to celebrate and promote diversity and represent the population we serve.
Fee: £584 + superannuation (if applicable) per appraisal.
Training and Supervision: Following a short interview, successful candidates will be invited to attend a mandatory two-day GP Appraiser training course. New Appraisers will be allocated an experienced supervisor and provided with on-going support.
Other Information: NHS England (Midlands) covers all five Midlands designated bodies. Although Appraisers are aligned to one of those designated bodies, as appraisals are now undertaken via a virtual platform, it is likely that work will be undertaken across different geographical areas.
Application: The application statement, preferably a word document containing no more than 500 words, should be referenced only by your GMC number on the top so that applications can be assessed anonymously. We would like you to explain in a few short paragraphs why you believe you would make a good Appraiser also provide detail of any relevant experience (such as coaching, mentoring, educational qualifications etc). We would also ask that you confirm the essential criteria (see below).
We actively monitor how representative our Appraiser workforce is of the wider GP population it serves. We ask that you complete this survey, EDI Monitoring Form which does not form part of the shortlisting process, but helps to inform our recruitment process (please only complete this survey if you have submitted an application)
Please apply by 5pm on 22 September 2023. Please send to: mids.recruitmentappraisal@nhs.net
Please note that if there is a high volume of applications, our process will close to further applications once 50 applications have been received.
